A focus of my ongoing and prior research has been on the growth and characterization of wide band gap semiconductors. This has included carbon-based materials, namely diamond, diamond-like carbon, and carbon nanostructures. My current work has transitioned to the nano-scale and focuses on surface and interface properties of materials. This includes the growth of carbon nano-structures and surface engineering of carbon and III-Nitride materials to promote added functionality. My interest in functionalizing surfaces has led to initiating studies into the attachment of molecular linking groups to carbon and the compound semiconductors for targeting specific analytes in sensing applications.
