Internship Opportunities

The Duke undergraduate Engineering program is an intense educational experience centered on the Duke campus during the regular academic year. Most students, during the summers between their sophomore and junior years, and their junior and senior years, enjoy internships in a wide variety of corporate settings.

In their internships students have been assigned to meaningful engineering projects while resident with the employer. In addition to the valuable insights into engineering work acquired through the internship experience, many have determined their initial career paths based on these experiences. Compensation by employers has been competitive.

Interviews for Internships typically take place at Duke early in the spring semester. Students interested in internships should discuss their interest with Yin Lu in the Duke Career Center and work with her to prepare a resume before the interview date. In recent years the majority of Duke Engineering undergraduates have successfully completed summer internships.

Internship Program with Microsoft: Microsoft has two scholarship/internship programs "to encourage people of color and women to pursue careers in Computer Science and other related technical fields": The Microsoft National Minority Technical Scholarship and the Microsoft National Female Technical Scholarship, with five scholarships (nationwide) in each program. Students will be "selected in recognition of their passion for software and the ability to make a difference in the software industry. Selected students will be considered for a paid summer internship that offers an opportunity to work on the development of Microsoft products."
