Undergraduates.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants.

Experienced undergraduates play a vital teaching role in the ECE Department. Under the supervision of the ECE Undergraduate Laboratory Manager and faculty, undergraduate TAs teach labs, grade homework, assist students with the use of computer tools, teach recitations and test review sessions, and hold office hours. TAs are assigned to courses in the Department based upon instructor nomination, and candidate's expressed self-interest and field of study. All teaching assistants are required to meet with the Undergraduate Laboratory Manager and, in the case of homework grader and recitation TAs, the course instructor as well, to gain a complete understanding of their responsibilities and job expectations including overall laboratory procedures in ECE as well as safe lab practices. Lab TAs are also required to attend weekly lab preparatory meetings.

All undergraduate TAs are eligible to receive the Outstanding Undergraduate TA Award for exceptional performance. This award consists of a certificate and a monetary award.

All undergraduate TAs in their senior year are eligible to receive the Charles R. Vail Undergraduate Teaching Award at commencement. This award recognizes the most outstanding Undergraduate Student Teaching Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This award consists of a certificate and a monetary award.

All undergraduates who wish to become Teaching Assistants should contact Mr. Kip Coonley, the ECE Laboratory Manager, (660-5186, kcoonley@ee.duke.edu, Hudson 108B) who can also provide additional information about the program.

All Teaching Assistants must see Marcia Arnold in Hudson 104 to be placed on the ECE payroll before work begins.
